I am in the financial services business and my role is to generate qualified leads for investment managers. Our company works with high net worth individuals and my job is to identify people whom I suspect have an appropriate nest egg of investable assets and then build a relationship that might lead to moving some money to our company. I pursue these people in two ways: I try to meet them directly using networking strategies, and I also try to identify people who have influential connections who, in turn, are able to introduce me to the kind of people I can turn into prospects. My goal is to meet people who socialize or work with the rich and famous and build a relationship with them so that they bring me into their circle, making introductions that I can leverage for business purposes. Sometimes these people are prominent CEOs and leaders in the business community, sometimes they are people who are active in social, charitable, and cultural affairs, and sometimes they are genuine celebrities.
