I am not trained as a salesperson, nor have I really ever held the job title “sales rep.” I am a small business owner who, in addition to all the other hats I wear, happens to be the only salesperson at my company. I discovered way back in my corporate life that I had a real natural talent for sales and that I was very comfortable in a face-to-face setting talking about the features and benefits of my product and service offerings. But the critical lesson I learned, back when I was a law book publisher, was that I could really sell if I could “show and tell,” demonstrate, or somehow get the prospect physically involved with the product. The company I own now is a service provider that helps clients produce products and tangible things, so getting our products into the prospect’s hands remains a huge piece of my selling strategy.
